Experience and Intercultural project During the time from Sept. 1997 till April 2000 I was employed as a programmer in a consulting company in Hannover, Germany. With a team of 6-8 persons we maintained the
software of one of the biggest travel agencies and charter airlines in Europe, all in all about 600 – 700 programs. During this time I learnt about co-ordination processes between our
purchasers and us, mostly via Email and telephone, as well as the structure of the working process and procedures in our company.
From autumn 1997 till November 2000 I was managing a voluntary project as a
co-organizer for the world-exhibition EXPO 2000 in Hannover. During the EXPO2000 about 170 states presented their own culture in different pavilions. This exhibition attracted
approx. 15 million visitors in the course of 5 months in the year 2000. Our project aimed at informing Westerners about the different kinds of Buddhism through various events,
meditation courses and presentations. The partner of the project was the Pagoda Vien Giac in Hannover, built by 60.000 Vietnamese refugees in the beginning of the 90’.
My tasks were research and conception, acquisition, press-conception and work, and day
to day management work. Through this project I came into close contact with the traditional understanding of Buddhism in the pagoda and also learnt about the East-Asian way of
organisation as compared to the Western methods. This project contributed greatly to the enrichment of my intercultural understanding.
